Welcome to our new series— Practice Your Chinese, HSK level 2. It’s designed to provide the HSK level 2 students with the most suitable materials for practicing Chinese. It can also be used for preparing the HSK level 2 test.

In each video of this series, first you listen to a story or dialogue at normal speed to get the main idea. Second, listen to the same material but at a much lower speed, and at the same time complete each sentence by filling in the blank with the words or phrases you hear. Lastly, answer a few questions about the story or dialogue.

Today’s story is about 世界杯(Shìjìebēi), 世界(shìjiè) means world, 杯(bēi) means cup, 世界杯(Shìjìebēi) often refers to the World Cup.  Below is the script and the translation of the story.

⼩李最爱的运动就是足球，而且他有很多和他⼀样喜欢足球的朋友。最近他们特别开心，因为差不多每天晚上都有世界杯的比赛。他们总是去酒吧，或者在一个朋友的家里一起看比赛。
今年的世界杯在俄罗斯，比赛的时间在中国常常是晚上。每天看完比赛的时候已经很晚了，所以最近他们都睡得不好，第⼆天上班的时候又困又累。

Xiǎo Lǐ zuì ài de yùndòng jiù shì zúqiú, érqiě tā yǒu hěn duō hé tā yīyàng xǐhuan zúqiú de péngyou. Zuìjìn tāmen tèbié kāixīn, yīnwèi chàbuduō měi tiān wǎnshang dōu yǒu Shìjièbēi de bǐsài. Tāmen zǒngshì qù jiǔbā, huòzhě zài yī gè péngyou de jiālǐ yīqǐ kàn bǐsài.
Jīnnián de Shìjièbēi zài Éluósī, bǐsài de shíjiān zài Zhōngguó chángcháng shì wǎnshang. Měi tiān kànwán bǐsài deshíhòu yǐjīng hěn wǎn le, suǒyǐ zuìjìn tāmen dōu shuì de bù hǎo, dì’èr tiān shàngbān deshíhòu yòu kùn yòu lèi.

The translation

Xiǎo Lǐ zuì ài de yùndòng jiù shì zúqiú,
Xiao Li’s favorite sport is football,

而且他有很多和他⼀样喜欢足球的朋友。
érqiě tā yǒu hěn duō hé tā yīyàng xǐhuan zúqiú de péngyou.
and he has many friends who like football just like him.

最近他们特别开心，
Zuìjìn tāmen tèbié kāixīn,
They are very happy recently,

因为差不多每天晚上都有世界杯的比赛。
yīnwèi chàbuduō měi tiān wǎnshang dōu yǒu Shìjièbēi de bǐsài.
Because there are the World Cup games almost every night.

他们总是去酒吧，
Tāmen zǒngshì qù jiǔbā,
They always go to the bar,

或者在一个朋友的家里一起看比赛。
