Oh gosh, I am tone deaf. It is hard for me to differentiate between the second (rising) and the fourth (falling) tones.
Nǐ hǎo, Linnorling!
The second tone sounds like you’re asking a question, like when you say “And you?”.
The fourth tone sounds like you’re commanding someone to do something, like when you say “Go! Go!”, or when you give a big “No!”.
The tones are quite difficult and confusing for almost every new learner, and it’s not necessary to ask yourself to be perfect at the beginning. I believe you will feel much more comfortable and confident after you finish the Pinyin course.
