Course Description
This course includes 10 lessons designed to teach you how to pronounce each sound of the standard Chinese phonetic system (Chinese Pinyin) — 21 initial consonants and 36 simple or compound vowels. It will also clearly explain the phonetic spelling rules for writing Chinese syllables and tone changes. In addition, there are many exercises such as reading the specific words and phrases, sound recognition and discrimination, which will help you master Chinese Pinyin effectively.

Nǐ hǎo, Zheng Laoshi. I am wondering if it’s possible to learn Chinese without having to learn Pinyin? I find it difficult and it feels as though I’m learning another language on top of learning Chinese.
I’m considering taking the Chinese Character course. Would it be difficult without taking the Pinyin course first?

Welcome to Litao Chinese and sorry for this late reply.
If you want to speak and understand Chinese, you must learn Pinyin. Because Pinyin is the Chinese phonetic system and the basis of speaking and listening skills. If you really just want to read and write, it’s fine to only learn Chinese characters.
But I suggest that you should still learn Pinyin, which will be very helpful for your future study.

Zheng-Tao. ni hao, I just tried the first lesson. I like it. I will try more and then will most likely buy. My first goal is to learn Pinyin and first of how to read Pinyin. What should I buy and how much I would pay in $US? I live in the USA, Washington DC area.
Which browser you advice to use in the USA? I used Chrom, not bad, may be any better suggestions?
